ARTIST NEWS
I've had four poems accepted for publication in the upcoming issue of The Ginosko Literary Journal.
From a pool of more than 30 Minnesota artists, I have been selected to create the Official 2013 Minnesota State Fair Commemorative Art! It is such a great honor to have the opportunity to create the poster for the largest fair in the country, and to be part of the rich community that surrounds it. My piece will be created for everyone in Minnesota and I can't wait to share it.
One of my poems has been accepted for publication in the upcoming issue of Pirene's Fountain.
I am the recipient of a 2013 MSAB Artist Initiative Grant. The funds will be used to learn digital illustration techniques to create a portfolio of new images. To pay it forward, I will conduct two free illustration workshops at the Nisswa Community Children's Library and the Two Harbors Community Center.
In the spring of 2011, Carol Sirrine, Executive Director of ArtStart, received a MSAB Arts Learning Grant to develop a program titled Two Rivers the Confluence of Art & Poetry Summer Institute and School Residency Program. Through this program, I'm working in several schools in 2012/13, alongside five other teachers artists.
During the 2012/13 school year, I will also be working with students at Anne Sullivan Communication Center in Minneapolis, teaching a class titled ROOTS & Hopes and Dreams, funded by an Arts Learning Grant as well. In addition, I'm continuing several partnerships with schools and libraries throughout Minnesota.
Two of my tiny poems appear in the inaugural issue of the Misty Mountain Review (April 2012).
In 2010, I was invited to create a book for uTales. Founded in 2010, uTales offers a new world of digital picture books for kids. Together with storyteller Paulino Brener from Argentina, I've created a picture book for ages 3-5: The Adventures of Meya (and Mo). Check it out at: www.utales.com
In the spring of 2008, Claire Counihan, Director of art & design at Holiday House Books, asked if I would be interested in illustrating a David and Michael Adler book. A PICTURE BOOK OF CESAR CHAVEZ was published in August 2010 and is available in book stores.
