In September - October of 2014, I'm exhibiting my art work at Stillwater Library. It will be a retrospective, and will include painting and sculpture, and (hopefully) some original art for kids.
CROW DIVINATION series of paintings are now available for purchase in the form of one-of-a-kind hand-painted, gilded, fine art prints on canvas. Send me an email for a price list. Prices vary depending on the size of an order.
WHITE LEAVES, a book of tiny poems, a post bound book arts piece, is now available for purchase for $15 through The Center for Book Arts shop, Birchbark Books, or through me.
On June 24, I was awarded a FY 2014 Next Step Fund grant by The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. The Next Step Fund program, funded by The McKnight Foundation, is designed to help artists in the 7-county metropolitan region complete a project that will help them rise to the next level in their careers. There were 340 artists who applied for the 38 grants given.
I've been commissioned to create a Commemorative Piece for the Theater Department of Marshfield University, WI, to be completed by October of 2014. I'm building a large diorama, an art box, that will consist of a couple of layers of painted and sculpted imagery.
Carol Sirrine, Executive Director of ArtStart, received a 2013/14 MSAB Arts Learning Grant to develop a program titled "Beneath the Surface," an Art & Poetry Summer Institute and School Residency Program. Through this program, I'm working in several schools in 2014, alongside three other teaching artists.
I've also partnered with InterAct Center, and will write poetry with students at Mississippi Creative Arts School in St. Paul. The poems will be turned into song lyrics, part of a grand theater performance in the spring of 2014.
Through Larry Long's Elders' Wisdom, Children's Song Program, I'm helping students at Anishinabe Academy create illustrations for a song book honoring the life of Ida Downwind.
I have several ongoing partnerships with schools in the Metro Area and Greater Minnesota, teaching mask-making, poetry, and book making, and will be back teaching poetry at the 2014 YA Conference at Bethel University.
My summer classes at the Loft writing fairy tales with kids are now open for registration.
From a pool of more than 30 Minnesota artists, I was selected to create the Official 2013 Minnesota State Fair Commemorative Art! It is such a great honor to have the opportunity to create the poster for the largest fair in the country, and to be part of the rich community that surrounds it. Fine art giclee prints are available for purchase on request (18.5" x 16.5"). A write-up about the artwork appeared on MPR News, and you can also watch an interview and the unveiling ceremony in the video below:
In 2013, I was the recipient of a MSAB Artist Initiative Grant. The funds were used to learn digital illustration techniques, and to create a portfolio of new images. Check out my new peices under Digital Art. To pay it forward, I conducted two free illustration workshops at the Nisswa Community Children's Library and the Two Harbors Community Center.
I had four poems accepted for publication in issue #13 of The Ginosko Literary Journal.
One of my poems was accepted for publication in Pirene's Fountain in 2013.
